Dr. Isunju John Bosco
Climate Change & Environmental Health Advisor
Dr. John Bosco Isunju is a highly accomplished and dedicated Environmental Health Advisor, specializing in the field of Environmental Health. With his extensive expertise and strong academic background, he has emerged as a sought-after advisor in the realm of environmental health. As a lecturer in the Department of Disease Control and Environmental Health at Makerere University School of Public Health (MaKSPH), Dr. Isunju has been instrumental in shaping environmental health strategies and policies. His advisory role extends to leading the development of an Environmental Health Strategy for the Ugandan Ministry of Health, playing a crucial part in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all.
Dr. Isunju’s research focuses on various facets of environmental health, including climate change, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), infection prevention and control, and occupational health and safety. His expertise in these areas is evident through the multiple research grants he has secured. These grants underscore his commitment to addressing critical environmental health challenges and finding innovative solutions through rigorous research and evidence-based approaches. Moreover, Dr. Isunju’s expertise goes beyond theoretical knowledge. He has been actively involved in undertaking infection prevention and control interventions and research in healthcare facilities across Uganda. By implementing evidence-based strategies, he has made significant contributions to minimizing the transmission of infections and enhancing the safety of healthcare environments.
Dr. Isunju’s impact in the field of environmental health extends beyond his academic pursuits. He has collaborated with renowned organizations and institutions as a Lead Consultant, including the World Health Organization (WHO), SNV, GiZ, WaterAid, IOM, Amref Health Africa, Living Water International, GOAL, AAH, Resilient Africa Network (RAN), and Ministries of Health and Water and Environment. Through these collaborations, he has played a pivotal role in shaping policies and programs that address pressing health and environmental challenges.
Dr. Ndyanabo Remegio
Health Systems Strengthening Advisor
Dr. Ndyanabo Remegio is a renowned health professional known for his exceptional expertise in research, leadership, and publication. With a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery and a Master of Public Health, he seamlessly integrates clinical knowledge with a deep understanding of public health principles. His vast research projects have covered critical areas such as healthcare delivery models, human resources for health, health financing, and governance. Dr. Ndyanabo has led successful research teams, designed protocols, analysed data, and disseminated ground-breaking findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals. His contributions have directly influenced policy-making and interventions, reinforcing health systems and improving outcomes.
Beyond research, Dr. Ndyanabo is a recognized authority in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems for healthcare programs. He has developed robust frameworks to measure program performance, track progress, and identify areas for enhancement. By implementing evidence-based M&E approaches, Dr. Ndyanabo ensures continuous optimization of health system interventions for maximum impact. His multidimensional expertise in research, health systems strengthening, surveillance, epidemiology, reproductive health, infection prevention and control, health financing, and monitoring and evaluation positions him as a sought-after advisor in public health. Dr Joost van Buuren
Water Sanitation & Hygiene Advisor
Dr van Buuren is a Dutch citizen. He graduated in 1971 in Chemical Technology at the Delft Technological University. His employment since was as a researcher, lecturer at the Department of Environmental Technology of Wageningen University. He has worked extensively in different fields of water, sanitation, and solid waste management in among others the Capverdian Islands, Mozambique, Vietnam, and Tanzania. In the period 1991-1994, he taught as a senior lecturer in water and wastewater treatment at the Eduardo Mondkane University in Maputo, Mozambique. From 1996 to 2011 he fulfilled several management and research tasks in an environmental cooperation project between Van Lang University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Wageningen University. Being a technologist his main field of interest is the selection and application of appropriate environmental technologies in various contexts in developing countries. In this respect, he puts emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach with effective integration of know-how from technological and social sciences. Since his retirement, he is a board member of SPOT Tanzania. This Dutch NGO collaborates with the Tanzanian NGO Chamavita based in Lushoto in the realization of water service systems in the North East of Tanzania. He is currently an advisor at SWEEM Health Consult.
Mujjabi Martin Mukasa
Public Health Specialist
Mujjabi Martin Mukasa, a seasoned Public Health Specialist, brings his extensive expertise to bear as an advisor to various organizations in the water and sanitation sector, including SWEEM HEALTH CONSULTS. With a wealth of experience in health and water supply and sanitation, Martin plays a crucial role in providing advisory services and guidance to promote sustainable practices and enhance public health outcomes.
One of Martin’s notable strengths lies in systems strengthening, with a particular focus on performance management and managing change. He excels in assessing existing systems, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing strategies to enhance the overall performance of organizations and projects in the water and sanitation sector. As an Environment & Sanitation Officer, Martin actively advises and collaborates with SWEEM HEALTH CONSULTS on behavioural change strategies to increase the uptake of health services and advance social justice. He leverages his deep understanding of the sector to organize meetings, symposia, workshops, seminars, and conferences that address issues related to social justice, public health management, and the establishment of public institutions. In his role, Martin offers valuable advisory support to communities and committees on water use, sanitation, social justice, and related fields.
Martin’s strength in systems strengthening further enhances his advisory capabilities. He applies his expertise in conducting evaluation surveys, impact assessments, audits, and valuations in social justice, water, energy, environmental management, and health. By focusing on performance management, Martin helps organizations identify gaps, streamline processes, and implement effective strategies for improved outcomes. Moreover, his proficiency in managing change enables him to navigate complex challenges and support organizations in adapting to evolving circumstances. Additionally, Martin plays a pivotal role in advising SWEEM HEALTH CONSULTS and other stakeholders on waste management control, water supply project monitoring and evaluation, and the development and interpretation of rules, policies, and procedures in health programs and services. He actively contributes to the identification and analysis of public health issues, facilitating evidence-based decision-making and the formulation of effective health policies.
Dr. Richard Kibirango Mugambe
Public Health Researcher
Dr. Richard Kibirango Mugambe is an accomplished Public Health researcher, lecturer, and advisor with deep expertise in the field of Environmental Health Sciences. As a faculty member at Makerere University School of Public Health in Kampala, Uganda, he combines his academic prowess with practical experience to make significant contributions to the field. Dr. Mugambe holds a Ph.D. in Global Health and specializes in the study of Environmental determinants of Health, particularly in challenging settings such as slums, emergencies, and institutions.
With over 16 years of experience, Dr. Mugambe has established himself as a trusted advisor in the realm of Public Health. He provides technical support and guidance to government ministries, non-government organizations, and private companies in the areas of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) research and environmental consulting. His skills as an advisor extend to critical aspects such as sanitation decision-making, governance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and risk-based decision-making frameworks for humanitarian WASH. Dr. Mugambe’s expertise is sought after by prestigious funding bodies, and he serves as a Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator on various projects funded by organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Dutch Research Council, National Academy of Sciences/USAID, and Wellcome Trust.
In addition to his advisory roles, Dr. Mugambe is actively involved in academia and professional organizations. He has published his research in esteemed peer-reviewed journals and has presented his findings at numerous international conferences. His dedication to sharing knowledge is evident through his engagement in professional associations, including the Uganda Association for Impact Assessment, the Uganda Environmental Health Workers’ Association, and the Uganda National Bureau of Standards Codex Committee.
