Ssekamatte Tonny

Public Health Lead

Ssekamatte Tonny is a dynamic and results-driven consultant with a diverse background in infectious diseases, environmental policy, governance, community health, and behavioural change. With expertise in Monitoring and Evaluation, health systems, and global health, Tonny brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in designing and implementing innovative solutions to complex challenges. His comprehensive background in program management and evaluation allows him to navigate the intricacies of public health, research, and environmental sustainability with ease. Tonny’s areas of focus include sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, One Health, gender-based violence, water, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as infectious diseases like Ebola, malaria, tuberculosis, COVID-19, and viral hepatitis B. Additionally, he has vast experience in working with key populations such as female sex workers and other minority groups, ensuring tailored and culturally sensitive approaches to address their unique health needs. This expertise, coupled with his understanding of community health and behavioural change, enables him to effectively engage and empower individuals and communities for positive health outcomes.

 

Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Policy Studies, Tonny is on track to completing his doctoral research, further expanding his knowledge and expertise in policy development and implementation. Holding a Master of Public Health degree, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation, Tonny combines his academic credentials with his expertise in infectious diseases, environmental policy, and governance to develop holistic and sustainable solutions. Committed to making a positive impact on communities, Tonny strives to improve overall well-being by implementing evidence-based strategies and enhancing environmental resilience. Nakato Stella

Legal and social justice expert

Nakato Stella is a highly skilled legal consultant specializing in social justice and equality issues. With a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre and a Second-Class Upper Degree in Law from Makerere University, Kampala, Nakato brings a strong academic background to her role. Nakato’s expertise lies in providing comprehensive legal advice and innovative solutions to her clients. She possesses a deep understanding of legal principles and practices, conducting thorough research and analysis to address complex legal issues. Her ability to synthesize information and develop evidence-based recommendations enables her to deliver high-quality services. Passionate about promoting social justice, Nakato has successfully advocated for the rights of marginalized communities and driven positive change through her work. She has particular expertise in sensitizing communities on their rights, including land rights, succession, and inheritance. Nakalembe Doreen

Monitoring and Evaluation Expert

Nakalembe Doreen is a highly skilled professional specializing in monitoring and evaluation, with comprehensive knowledge of One Health. With a Master’s degree in Public Health Monitoring and Evaluation from Makerere University School of Public Health and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics from Kyambogo University, Nakalembe possesses a strong academic foundation that supports her expertise in these fields.

Her professional profile reflects a proactive attitude, exceptional analytical and interpersonal skills, and outstanding organizational abilities. Nakalembe is a confident communicator who excels at motivating teams and achieving exceptional business performance. Nakalembe’s extensive work experience encompasses various aspects of monitoring and evaluation, including cost-benefit analyses. She has led projects focused on assessing program effectiveness, conducting impact evaluations, and implementing robust monitoring frameworks. Her contributions to organizations such as WaterAid Uganda (WAU), AMREF Health Africa, and GIZ showcase her expertise in data analysis, program evaluation, and performance measurement. Additionally, Nakalembe has a comprehensive understanding of One Health, which recognizes the interconnectedness of human health, animal health, and the environment. Her knowledge in this area allows her to effectively integrate these perspectives into monitoring and evaluation frameworks, ensuring a holistic approach to public health interventions.

Previously, Nakalembe worked as a Data Analyst at Makerere University School of Public Health, where she played a pivotal role in several research projects on water, sanitation and hygiene, infection prevention and control, reproductive health, and One Health. Her involvement in these projects allowed her to develop a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding these crucial areas of public health and provided her with valuable insights into monitoring and evaluating interventions from a One Health perspective. Nakalembe has also made significant contributions to the field through her publications. Her research findings and insights have been widely recognized and published in reputable journals, further solidifying her expertise and adding to the body of knowledge in monitoring and evaluation, as well as One Health.

Ms. Joana Nakiggala

Programs Manager

Ms. Joana Nakiggala is an environmental and public health practitioner with extensive experience in various areas, including Environmental Health, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), IPC (Infection Prevention and Control), and Reproductive Health. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated exceptional project management skills in her roles as a public health expert, project coordinator, and programs manager.

Ms. Nakiggala’s project management expertise is evident in her ability to lead initiatives focused on environmental and public health improvement. She has successfully designed, implemented, and evaluated comprehensive programs aimed at addressing issues such as WASH, IPC, and Disease prevention. Her strong organizational skills and attention to detail have ensured the smooth execution of these programs. As a project manager, Ms. Nakiggala has excelled in overseeing data collection, analysis, and reporting. She ensures that project teams adhere to study protocols, ethics, and regulatory guidelines, maintaining the highest standards in research and evaluation. Her meticulous approach to project management contributes to the accuracy and reliability of the data collected and the resulting reports.

Mr. Galiwango Jovan

With a solid background in Environmental Health, WASH, IPC, Reproductive Health, and Health System Management, Mr. Jovan possesses the expertise and drive to create meaningful transformations. Jovan has an impressive track record of collaboration with esteemed practitioners and renowned organizations such as TASO, GiZ, WaterAid, AMREF, and MAKSPH. Working alongside a team of skilled consultants, he has consistently delivered outstanding results, leveraging their collective expertise and resources to achieve impactful outcomes.

At the core of Jovan’s work lies his ability to implement community-level interventions that significantly enhance knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to critical health issues like HIV, TB, and malaria. Solomon Wafula

Public Health Specialist

Solomon Wafula is an epidemiologist and public health scientist who works as a Doctoral Fellow in Epidemiology at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) in Germany, where he is pursuing his PhD degree. He has 8 years’ experience as a researcher at Makerere University School of Public Health in Uganda, where he also obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health. He has two Master’s Degrees in Public Health and Epidemiology from the University of Manchester in the UK and the University of Antwerp in Belgium, respectively.

Solomon has a strong interest and expertise in studying the environmental and socioeconomic determinants of public health outcomes. He specializes in quantitative research methods, regression modelling, and causal mediation analysis. Solomon applies these methods to conduct rigorous studies that generate evidence for public health decision-making and policy development. His research primarily focuses on malaria, neglected tropical diseases, and environmental pollution. He investigates how public health interventions impact disease risk and the adoption of preventive behaviors. Additionally, he measures pollutant levels in the environment and the human body and assesses their effects on health outcomes. Solomon has an impressive publication record with over 50 papers in reputable peer-reviewed journals, contributing significantly to the field of epidemiology and public health. He has secured career development grants from prestigious institutions such as the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH), the World Health Organization (WHO), and Makerere University. These grants have enabled him to conduct vital research studies and implement innovative disease control and prevention approaches in Uganda and beyond. Solomon collaborates with researchers from various countries, including Uganda, Belgium, UK, Germany, Sweden, and the United States, for joint research projects and knowledge exchange. He also mentors students and teaches courses on epidemiology, environmental toxicity, and research methods at Makerere University. Through capacity building activities, Solomon enhances the skills and competencies of public health professionals in Uganda.
